Embark on a blend of invigorating walks and hikes through Aspen, beginning from the town center and venturing along well-trodden trails, uncovering snippets of history, nature, and culture en route.
The walks featured here span longer distances than traditional walking tours, resembling light hikes with gentle terrain and minimal elevation gain. Meanwhile, the hikes available present more challenging landscapes with increased elevation gain, perfect for those seeking a more adventurous trek.

The first 3 hiking tours below are scheduled and bookable online on Saturdays & Sundays at 10 a.m., once 1 of the 3 is selected and booked by a guest that becomes the offering of the day. Please check all 3 and if your first choice is closed to online booking please check if one of the others is available.

Leisure Hike – East Aspen Hunter Creek
This light hike connects trails, hidden neighborhoods and nature paths east of town along the Roaring Fork River and the Hunter Creek. The majority of the hike is adjacent to tranquil flowing bodies of water.

Tracing the Shadow Walk
Embark on an easy, engaging walk that skirts the base of Shadow Mountain, weaving through iconic historical landmarks as it follows old railroad beds out to scenic meadows. Rio Grande West End Walk
Join us for an energetic stroll on the Rio Grande Trail as we venture out of the bustling town center along the serene Roaring Fork River. Our path will take us through the picturesque Aspen Meadows and the esteemed Aspen Institute Campus, offering a blend of natural beauty and intellectual heritage. As we loop back to town, we’ll meander through charming Victorian neighborhoods. This easy hike is perfect for anyone looking for a moderate activity with a mix of wide paved pedestrian-friendly paths, rustic nature trails and quiet streets.

Aspen East End Walk
This exploratory active walking tour departs from the heart of town and traverses park spaces and quiet neighborhoods winding its way east of Aspen and back. Discover hidden paths along the Roaring Fork River surrounding town. This tour travels along paved & dirt pathways with a little elevation gain. A good exercise along hidden scenic paths.

Hunter Creek Hike
The Hunter Creek Hike climbs up into the Hunter Creek Valley along the tranquil flowing water of the creek under a canopy of trees. This is one of the prettiest hikes close to town. It is a rocky/dirt trail that follows Hunter Creek to Hunter Valley This is a more challenging hike with an uphill climb. The grade is steep as the first mile of the trail ascends more than 700 feet in elevation.
Recommended to wear hiking boots and to bring water, snacks & rain gear.

Smuggler Mountain Hike
This light hike up Smuggler Mountain Road is a moderate incline along a paved dirt road that is a popular exercise route and provides great view of Aspen. This is an easier hike along a mostly smooth paved dirt surface.
